Wednesday 7pm-9pm – Beginner Rope Class @ AKA Studio
There are two beginner classes on Wednesday nights, B1 and B2 (see below for specific class descriptions). Beginner rope classes commence with a safety and consent discussion and an introduction to rope. In this class, participants learn how to apply a single column tie (the starting foundation of most ties) and in-line cuff, and will then be able to progress to creating simple shapes on the legs or torso with guidance during the remainder of the class and in ongoing beginner classes. Safety discussions are continuous at all times.
Whilst classes are generally attended in pairs, these classes are suitable for self tying or you may be able pair up with another student. Tickets are per person, and each person will need a ticket to attend. Safety equipment and house rope is available if you do not have your own rope yet.
Beginner 1 (B1): This class is designed to cover foundational rope knowledge and pathways. This includes negotiation, rope safety, single column ties (bulla bulla, somerville and lark’s head pathways), inline cuffs, double columns, futomomos (bent leg ties), agura (crossed leg ties) and flutes. Come solo or partnered, no prior rope knowledge or experience required, tickets are sold individually (1 ticket = 1 person). We have rope and safety equipment you can use. Typical cycle to advance from this class is 4 classes, although this can depend on the individual (discuss with the teacher).
Beginner 2 (B2): This class is designed to expand on the foundational rope knowledge and build on B1 or equivalent experience. In this class we cover specific rope safety and negotiation as well as a 8 week cycle of particular harnesses and pathways. Typically, students will complete 8 weeks (doesn’t have to be consecutive) or more at this level before advancing to intermediate, however, each individual journey and learning is different. B1 or equivalent knowledge will be required to participate in this class. The chest harness classes are best partnered, however, we try to account for solo tiers, tickets are sold individually (1 ticket = 1 person). We have rope and safety equipment you can use should you not have your own yet.
Thursday 7pm-9:30pm – Intermediate Rope Class @ Studio Take Care
Intermediate classes are a progression from our introduction classes, designed to expand on B2 or equivalent knowledge, as we start to cover more shapes including 2 & 3 part Takate Kotes (TKs) as well as in-depth tying and safety tips to build fun, safer and sustainable tying techniques for floor work. We cover a theme each month (e.g. gotes, lower body ties and funky arms) and have a 2.5 hr period to learn the tie and allow a chance play with it or tie it multiple times.
To attend this class participants must be partnered, competent with basic shapes, have an understanding of tension, and of the risks involved in rope bondage. Students must also have their own equipment including rope and a rope cutting tool. If unsure of skill level or any requirements please attend one of our Wednesday night Beginner classes and speak to an instructor.
To ensure a positive learning experience for everyone, more experienced intermediate students may be given opportunities to extend their ties with techniques that utilise a hard point, subject to teacher discretion. The pre-requisite for this is a suspension ready chest harness (eg a 3-part TK). In this class, there is both suspension and non-suspension tickets available.
Tickets are per pair (1 ticket = 2 people).
